It’s over again, the 2024 Fish Doorbell season. And what a special season it was! Thanks to the efforts of you and many thousands of other people from all over the world, thousands of fish have passed the boat lock.
Unlike previous years, this spring was very wet and cold. This meant that the water remained cloudy until the end. It was also noticeable that the fish migration started later. Nevertheless, we soon saw beautiful schools of large ide already swimming past in March.
The most common fish species this year were perch, common roach and freshwater bream. We also saw a surprising amount of carp, walleye and eel this year. Much more than last year. We also saw large catfish swimming past four times this year.
In total, there have been 2.7 million unique visitors to the Fish Doorbell. Most people came from America, the United Kingdom and Brazil. We were able to tell people all over the world about the Fish Doorbell. And with that, many people were introduced to the wonderful underwater world of the Netherlands.
