Many different fish species swim in the Utrecht canals and waterways. You can see a few of them below. Which ones have you spotted?
The most spotted fish species in 2025
Thirteen fish species passed by in 2025. The most common species were perch, pike, and bream. Eels were also spotted regularly, and the catfish made another appearance. For the first time, we even saw a bleak on camera!

Most fish are active during dawn or dusk.

The first fish appear in March, but the migration really picks up from early April.
